We realise that patients are often apprehensive when coming for a scan. We have aimed to provide facilities and staff for you to make this process as comfortable as possible for you. About Trinity MRI

Trinity MRI is New Zealand’s only imaging facility dedicated to Brain, Spine and Neurovascular imaging. Our staff is sub-specialty trained, and our equipment has been tailored to ensure the highest quality images. All our studies are double-read by Neuroradiologists. We are committed to providing accurate, timely reports.

What makes Trinity MRI different?

Patient Safety
We continuously monitor you during your scan to ensure your safety and comfort. You can communicate with us at any time from the scan room. Your heart rate and breathing will be monitored continuously. Our staff are trained in CPR, in the unlikely event it be required.
Sedation
Most patients find an MRI scan easy to tolerate, but some patients may feel uncomfortable, and require sedation. If you think you may need sedation, please let us know in advance.
Technology
Our scanner, a Phillips 3.0T machine, was specifically chosen to provide advanced imaging tools such as spectroscopy, perfusion imaging, quantitative volumetric imaging, tractography, and functional MRI, and very high quality MR angiography.

Spacious Facilities
Being a single-modality site, we are quiet and uncluttered. The care, comfort, and confidentiality of your patients is paramount to us.
Radiological Expertise
Our consultant radiologists are all subspecialty trained. All studies are supervised, tailored to each patient, and reported on the same day. Your study will then be second-reported by an independent consultant, before a final report is issued.
Radiographic Expertise
Trinity only employs dedicated MRI radiographers, with special skills in advanced neuroimaging. Their detailed knowledge allows them to tailor your examination to your specific needs, adjusting the scan technique case by case.

Dr Maurice Moriarty
Dr Maurice Moriarty
Dr Maurice Moriarty has 20 years’ post-graduate experience. Maurice obtained his medical degree through Auckland University, with radiology training and qualification (FRANZCR) at Auckland City Hospital. He then performed a fellowship in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia. Maurice holds a Diploma in neurovascular radiology from University of Paris-Sud/Mahidol University.

Dr Ayton Hope
Dr Ayton Hope has 25 years’ post-graduate experience and is head of Division of Neuroradiology, Radiology Department, Auckland City Hospital. His initial medical training was at Dundee Medical School. He qualified in radiology at Dunedin Hospital (FRACR) obtaining further subspecialty neuroradiology training at Seattle & Sick Children's Hospital, Toronto. Ayton also holds a Master of Science from Oxford University

Dr Ben McGuinness
Dr Ben McGuinness obtained his medical degree through Auckland University, with radiology training and qualification (FRANZCR) at Auckland City Hospital. Ben completed a neuroradiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA. He is a Member of the American Society of Neuroradiologists. Ben is currently the New Zealand representative on the council for the Australian and New Zealand Society of Neuroradiology.

Dr Stefan Brew
Dr Stefan Brew obtained his medical degree through Auckland University. His radiology training and qualification (FRANZCR) was at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia, with subspecialist training in interventional radiology. His neuroradiology fellowship was at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, in adult and paediatric diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology, where he was subsequently lead clinician for Interventional Neuroradiology. Stefan holds a Diploma in neurovascular radiology from University of Paris-Sud/Mahidol University, and a Master of Human Biology from Auckland University.

Dr James Caldwell
Dr James Caldwell undertook his medical degree and subsequent specialist training in radiology in Auckland (FRANZCR). He completed neuroradiology fellowship training in Auckland and Vancouver to obtain subspecialty expertise. He is a consultant neuroradiologist at Auckland City Hospital and Trinity MRI with particular interests in imaging for ophthalmological, pituitary and neurovascular disorders.

Jeremy (Charge Radiographer, NDMDI, MHSc) will attend to the scan itself. He is a highly trained and experienced radiographer. He will explain the process of the scan to you, and will constantly be on hand should you require assistance. He will also look after any required sedation or contrast media.

With 15 years experience in the medical profession, Theresa is well acquainted with the needs of patients and doctors. She will guide patients through the process of booking the scan, explaining our facilities and parking, and answering any questions that you may have.
